Health Sciences Summer Camp
Partnering with Spring Branch Community Health Center, we're shaping the future of healthcare, one student at a time.
The annual Spring Branch Leadership Institute: Health Sciences Summer Camp is more than a weeklong program; it’s a launchpad for young leaders ready to make a difference. Designed for rising 10th–12th-grade students, the camp invites participants to step into the world of healthcare, where curiosity meets purpose and passion takes shape.
Inside the program, students don’t just learn, they engage. Guided by experienced healthcare professionals and community leaders, participants explore fields such as internal medicine, dentistry, pediatrics, behavioral health, and public health. These sessions go beyond textbooks, offering real-world insight into the challenges and opportunities shaping today’s healthcare landscape.
But the experience doesn’t stop there. Through exclusive visits to the renowned Texas Medical Center, the world's largest medical complex, and immersive college tours at the University of Houston, including its Colleges of Medicine, Optometry, and Pharmacy, students gain a firsthand look at the pathways that can turn their ambitions into reality.
At its core, SBLI is about empowerment. It shines a light on health disparities while equipping students with the knowledge, confidence, and vision to become changemakers in their own communities. It’s a space where future doctors, nurses, public health advocates, and leaders begin to see what’s possible and realize they can be part of the solution. Applying is the first step toward a meaningful summer, and a future filled with purpose.

The Spring Branch Leadership Institute is supported by the Spring Branch Community Health Center a nonprofit 501 (c) corporation that has been designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center(FQHC). The health center understands that our healthcare system lacks diversity among health professionals. A workforce of providers that lack cultural competencies to serve the community creates a challenge and negatively impacts patient outcomes. Through this summer camp, youth participants from diverse backgrounds and cultures will be encouraged to explore health professions. This experience will provide them with the necessary education and tools to help them choose the right pathway for these careers in the health industry.

The Spring Branch Leadership Institute (SBLI) was established in May 2021 to encourage high school students to pursue careers in the health industry.
SBLI's vision is to develop young leaders who understand the impact of health disparities in our communities and to teach them how to contribute to health transformation in their own neighborhoods.

SBLI has affiliated with Spring Branch Community Health Center a nonprofit community health center in the Greater West Houston Community.
A nonprofit is as strong as the community that holds it up. Together, we can do more than we can do alone. Let's bring our abilities and passions together to affect real change.
